Controller Usage Guide

Manic EMU supports a wide range of external controllers, including but not limited to PS Dualshock, Joy-Con, Xbox controllers, Bluetooth keyboards, and more. Any wired or wireless device certified by iOS MFi can be used as a controller. Ready to dive into retro gaming? Follow these simple setup steps!

Basic Connection Guide

  1. Bluetooth Pairing: Go to iOS Settings > Bluetooth and connect your external device.
  2. Controller Management: Open Manic EMU, access the controller management page via the top-left button in the game list (top-right for RTL languages), or adjust settings mid-game via the quick menu.
  3. Multiplayer Setup: Enjoy split controls! For example, in Snow Bros, use on-screen buttons for Player 1 and an external controller for Player 2. Pair multiple controllers and cast via AirPlay to transform your TV into a retro gaming hub—perfect for couch co-op!

PlayStation Controller Connection

Supported Models

Pairing Steps

  1. Enter Pairing Mode: Turn off the controller, then hold PS Button + Create/Share Button until the light bar flashes.
  2. Bluetooth Connection: Select the controller name in your iOS device’s Bluetooth settings.
  3. Quick Activation: If paired but not connected, press the PS Button to wake it up.

Joy-Con Controller Connection

Requirements

  • OS Version: iOS 16 / iPadOS 16 or later
  • Supported Devices: iPhone 8 or newer, iPadOS 16-compatible iPads
  • Controller Types: Switch Joy-Con (single/pair), Switch Pro

Single Joy-Con Pairing

  1. Start Pairing: Press and hold the Pairing Button (small circle) on the Joy-Con until the LED indicators flash sequentially.
  2. Bluetooth Connection: Select Joy-Con(L) or Joy-Con(R) in iOS Bluetooth settings.

Split Joy-Con Mode

Want to use left/right Joy-Con as separate controllers? In Manic EMU’s controller management page:

  1. Hold Left Joy-Con Capture Button + Right Joy-Con Home Button for 3-5 seconds.
  2. Once split, enjoy two-player local battles!

Switch Pro Controller Connection

  1. Enter Pairing Mode: Press and hold the Pairing Button on the top until the LED flashes.
  2. Bluetooth Connection: Select Pro Controller in iOS Bluetooth settings.

Xbox Controller Connection
